Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to the most frequently asked questions about TipShare.
What is TipShare?
TipShare is a web application that allows hospitality businesses to distribute tips fairly among their employees. Distribution is done automatically based on hours worked, optionally with role-based weights and department-level distribution.
What does TipShare cost?
TipShare costs EUR 9 per month (excluding VAT). There are no setup fees and you can cancel monthly. Payment is via iDEAL or credit card.
What distribution models are available?
TipShare offers three models:
- Model A (Per period): You enter the total tip amount for the entire period. Ideal for businesses that settle weekly or monthly.
- Model B (Per day): You enter the tip amount per day and select which employees worked that day. Perfect for businesses with varying schedules.
- Model C (Per day per time slot): Like Model B, but with separate time slots (e.g. lunch and dinner). For businesses where tips vary per shift.
What are weights?
Weights allow you to assign a larger or smaller share of tips to employees based on their role. For example: a head chef (weight 1.2) receives 20% more tips per hour than a dishwasher (weight 1.0). Weights are optional.
What is department distribution?
With department distribution, you can first distribute tips across departments (e.g. 60% front of house, 40% kitchen) before distributing within each department based on hours. This is optional.
Is TipShare GDPR-compliant?
Yes. We only process the minimum necessary personal data and have put appropriate security measures in place. See our Privacy Policy and our Data Processing Agreement.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can download a PDF report per period with the complete tip distribution. This report is suitable for your payroll administration.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription at any time via the settings in the application. Your account remains active until the end of the paid period.
Can I add multiple users?
Yes. As an administrator you can invite up to 3 team members to collaborate on tip distribution. The number of employees whose tips are distributed is of course unlimited. Invited users get access to the same restaurant data as the administrator, but only the administrator can invite employees and manage the subscription.
How is the tip calculated?
The basic calculation is: tip per employee = (employee hours / total hours) × total tips. Optionally, weights and department percentages are applied. The exact calculation is always transparently visible in the results screen.
